A Quiet Leader. A Safer Chicago. Thank You, Superintendent Larry Snelling.
Not every leader commands attention with grand speeches or constant headlines. Some lead through consistency, integrity, and results. As Chicago says goodbye to Superintendent Larry Snelling, it is worth taking a moment to recognize a public servant whose leadership quietly made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless residents.
A native of Englewood, Superintendent Snelling brought more than experience to the role. He brought an understanding of Chicago’s neighborhoods, the challenges they face, and the importance of earning the public’s trust. Throughout his tenure, he led with professionalism, humility, and a steady hand, choosing to focus on the work rather than the spotlight.
Under his leadership, Chicago experienced measurable progress in reducing crime while working to strengthen confidence between law enforcement and the communities they serve. In a city as large and complex as Chicago, those achievements are significant. Many would argue that Superintendent Snelling belongs among the city’s finest police leaders because he demonstrated that calm, thoughtful leadership can produce meaningful and lasting results.
On behalf of all of us at Midway Broadcasting Corporation, we extend our sincere gratitude to Superintendent Snelling for his years of dedicated service. His legacy will be measured not only by crime statistics, but by the renewed sense of safety experienced by families, businesses, and neighborhoods across Chicago.
As Superintendent Snelling begins a well-earned retirement, attention now turns to Mayor Brandon Johnson and one of the most consequential decisions of his administration: selecting Chicago’s next police superintendent. The city has made important progress, and preserving that momentum will require a leader with exceptional experience, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to public safety and community trust.
Chicago remains one of America’s greatest cities—vibrant, resilient, and diverse. It deserves leadership capable of meeting its challenges while building on the foundation that has already been laid.
To Superintendent Larry Snelling: thank you for your service, your steady leadership, and your unwavering commitment to the people of Chicago. We wish you nothing but success, good health, and fulfillment in this next chapter. Your service has left a lasting mark on our city, and for that, we are grateful.
