WVON Presents The Matt & Perri Boot Crusade

Stop the Boot CrusadeOn September 16, 1987, the City of Chicago established a vehicle immobilization program more commonly known as the boot program. Under that program vehicles were at risk of being booted when the registered owner accrued three (3) or more unpaid parking or red-light tickets in final determination status or (2) unpaid parking or red-light tickets in final determination status older than one year.

On November 19, 2008 the Chicago City Council approved a change in the city’s boot eligibility threshold making cars eligible for the boot if the registered motorist had two (2) delinquent tickets one year or older.

We, the undersigned, find the new program excessively harsh; one that is causing a financial hardship on many city residents during a time of severe, personal economic distress. We call on the Chicago City Council to enact a new boot eligibility threshold which renders cars eligible for the boot if the registered motorist has three (3) delinquent tickets one year or older. We further call on the City Council to ensure that boot operators obey the ordinance and boot automobiles only after confirmation that the threshold has been met.
